Beginner Skateboarding Blunders - How To Avoid Them
Posted By ZachPlay On 24. July 2011 @ 20:27 In General | No Comments
Almost nobody is good at skateboarding right away. There will always be some who master the basic techniques in a very short amount of time. But some will need more practice to get to a comfortable place with the balance required and overall feel of skating. Just about all new skaters learn little tricks and tips so the learning is easier. Next, we’ll go over some helpful hints you can use when you shop for that first board and then head-out on your own.
Wearing the proper footware is important. Board control is critically important, so you’ll need to have the ability to control the board with your feet. Sure, yeah - you can wear combat boots if you want. But if you want to do anything remotely cool, or if you commute to work, then you’ll really want the right footwear. Athletic shoes for skateboarding are like any other except the shoe is flat inside. There’s very little to zero arch support in the shoe, on purpose. You’ll have more board control because your feet will be able to control better. These shoes are not hard to find, and they’re not expensive, either. Don’t buy your first board from a department store, the best way to go is from a skaters shop. You’ll need to use a board that’s best for you, and a skate shop will be able to recommend one just for you. Most newbies use an ABEC board in the beginning. But until you try some different boards and get a feel for them, you won’t know for sure what’s best. Employees in a skate shop will be better prepared to help you than anywhere else. It really will make a difference if you listen to what they have to say about this subject. They’ll have the low down on things.
There are two basic stances in skateboarding: Regular and Goofy. For the Regular skate stance you’ll want the left foot forward, and the right foot in the back. Just switch your feet positions to do the Goofy. You can push-off in four different ways. Regular - use right foot to push, Mongo Regular - push with front (right) foot, Goofy - use left foot, and Mongo Goofy - push with front (left) foot. It’ll take a bit of time to decide what’s best for you. Almost anyone can learn to ride a board. If you can be patient and learn slowly, then you really can do anything you desire on a board. You’ll get there if you can be patient!
