Beginner Skateboarding Blunders - How To Avoid Them

Very few, if any, people are any good the first time they step on a skateboard. You’ll find some skaters who catch on to the basics in no time at all. Other skaters require more time to get used to balance, feel, and the particular motions of skating. All skaters learned helpful tricks/tips from their friends that helped to learn quicker. Wearing the proper foot wear is important. Board control is critically important, so you’ll need to have the ability to control the board with your feet. Sure, yeah - you can wear combat boots if you want. But if you want to do anything remotely cool, or if you commute to work, then you’ll really want the right foot wear. A skateboarding athletic shoe is flat inside of it. There is little to no arch support, which is done on purpose. This allows you to use the muscles in your feet to control the board and to give your board more control. Most shoe stores sell at least some form of skateboarding shoe so obtaining a pair shouldn’t be too expensive. Buy your first skateboard at a skate shop instead of a sports store or a department store. At a skate shop the employees will be well versed in skateboarding and will be able to help you find the board you need to begin with. Most newbies use an ABEC board in the beginning. But until you try some different boards and get a feel for them, you won’t know for sure what’s best. A skating shop will have people better qualified to help than people who work in a department store. So it’s important to consider their advice and recommendations. They’ll know what the real story is!

The two basic stances are Goofy and Regular. The Regular stance is done with the left foot in front, right foot in the rear. And the Goofy will be the reverse. You can do four basic push-off techniques. Regular: Use your right foot to push, Mongo Regular: Push with your front (right) foot, Goofy: Use your left foot, and Mongo Goofy: Push with your front (left) foot. You’ll need some time to see what you like best. Anybody can learn how to skateboard. If you want to learn to skateboard and don’t mind taking your time and learning a little bit at a time you will be able to do anything you want to on a board. The key is to be patient and you will get there!
